A Pilsner That Doesn’t Suck
I must admit that I am generally biased against pilsner style beer. I don’t know if its the tendency for American beer companies to add rice to the mash to lower the cost of production. Or whether its because some friends of my have an undue obsession with Stella Artois. But whenever I see the word pilsner, I usually curse under my breathe. On a recent trip to Wholefoods, however, I was cajoled into sampling Jever, which is a hoppy German Pilsner. I was surprised at how much it didn’t suck. If you’re looking for a beer that’s light and crisp but still has some bitter to make it interesting, Jever is definitely a good pick.
